The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has just launched a new app that makes recall information more accessible to consumers via their mobile devices. Consumers can now use this app to quickly search and find out whether or not a specific product is under recall. This app applies to most consumer products that are impacted by CPSC related recalls.

A difficult part about getting dangerous products fixed is getting recall information directly to consumers. Recall remedy compliance is a huge part of making sure consumers aren’t endangered by dangerous products. At this time, the CPSC is calling on consumers to download the app and give them feedback.

Dangerous and Defective Products

Manufacturers are required to contact the CPSC in a timely manner when issues of product safety arise. Consumer complaints and reports lead to investigations, and investigations can lead to recalls. If a dangerous or defective product has injured you or a loved one, you should contact the product’s manufacturer, the CPSC and a Personal Injury lawyer with proven product liability case experience.

The CPSC is tasked with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with consumer products. In most cases, when manufacturers receive incident reports, they begin investigating immediately. When that doesn’t happen, and issues are swept under the rug, consumers are put at even greater risk for injury or death.

What About Vehicle Recalls

Over the past five plus years, we’ve seen an increase in vehicle recalls too. We’ve also seen certain automobile manufacturers try to ignore major mechanical defects. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends consumers check their vehicles’ VINs (Vehicle Identification Numbers) at least twice a year on their website.

Depending upon whether you bought the car used or have changed addresses, you may or may not get one of those little post cards that alert you to a recall. Checking your VIN only takes a few minutes. If your vehicle is under recall, contact the nearest dealership for repair instructions.
