On Friday, at least 20 people were injured when a tour bus struck several vehicles in downtown San Francisco. According to ABC Channel Seven News, the wreck happened at a construction site at Post and Stockton Streets, where a new Apple store is being built. At least four people were critically injured in the crash. Injured victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital and Kaiser. At this time, very little information has been released about the crash, but we do know that prior to the wreck, the double-decker bus was gaining speed and driving erratically for at least two blocks.

Tour Bus Crashes Into Construction Site

Among the victims’ injuries, there were head and facial injuries, fractures and internal organ damage. Prior to crashing into the construction site, the tour bus struck a cyclist too. That person was listed in critical condition. The bus finally came to a stop after hitting several cars and scaffolding at the construction site. Law enforcement officers are looking into whether drugs, alcohol or mechanical malfunctions could have been factors in this crash.

Bus Accidents in San Francisco

The tour bus industry is big in San Francisco, and passengers expect their rides to be safe. Unlike public transportation buses, tour bus companies are usually privately owned. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t held to safety standards though. Whether you’re on a city bus or a tour bus, you should get to your destination safely. Buses need to be properly maintained and serviced to ensure brakes, tires and other important components are up to standard.
