Last week, The Safety Institute requested an investigation be conducted and a recall issued of Kenmore model 790 ovens due to defective doors. Already, there have been over 300 consumer reports of the glass doors on these ovens shattering during oven use and non-use. There have been many reports of the doors exploding while ovens are pre-heating, heating and during the self-cleaning mode. Some consumers have even had replacement doors shatter a second, third or fourth time after replacement. Complaints go back to March of 2011, yet very little has been done to protect the public from these defective ovens.
