Pedestrian-Fatality_0

Around 8:30 pm Friday evening, California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call from motorists on Highway 101 about a person stumbling into traffic lanes. Then twenty minutes later this person on the highway, now identified by police as 25-year-old Azaleah Aglubut of San Jose, was struck and killed by a vehicle.

Aglubut was walking northeast in the far right lane near the Great America Parkway when she struck by a BMW, the driver of which, stopped and immediately called the police. She remained at the scene and was reportedly cooperative with the investigation.

According to eyewitnesses and the CHP, after the head-on collision, after Azaleah Aglubut was struck and left in the road, good-samaritans cleared her from the roadway onto the shoulder.

Lifesaving efforts were immediately undertaken by witnesses and emergency crews, but unfortunately Aglubut was reported dead at the scene.

Regarding these maneuvers by well-intentioned eyewitness and there inherent danger, on the scene officer Chris Falkowski had this to say. “From a human nature perspective, that’s how most of us are geared, to go help. We’re thankful they were able to move themselves and the pedestrian.” He also added, “If the pedestrian was in the lane for another few minutes, there could be have been another accident”.

While an investigation is still underway, CHP officials said it does not appear there is any evidence for her driving anywhere in the vicinity of her death scene, and are still trying to figure out why the Aglubut was walking on the highway.

San Jose CHP is requesting any witnesses to this collision to contact Officer Montano at (408)-467-5400 (ext.)373.
