Four men were injured, when the vehicle they were in careened 60 feet down an embankment off eastbound Interstate 580 between Seminary and Keller avenues, according to the California Highway Patrol spokesperson.

One man was able to get out of the four-door sedan on his own while firefighters had to assist the other three. Some of them had what were described as traumatic injuries, two of the men are listed in critical condition.

One of the critically injured men was placed in a basket stretcher and brought up the embankment by emergency crews.

None of the men’s names were released. They were in their mid 20s to mid 40s and may have been on their way to work, officials said.

Authorities were alerted at 5:38 a.m. Thursday when a resident of the area along eastbound I-580 called the CHP after hearing a loud crash behind a home.

Members of the fire department’s heavy rescue team, assisted by a tow truck operator, used three cables to pull the vehicle back onto the roadway, Battalion Fire Chief Melinda Drayton said.

The four men were transported to the hospital. The cause of the crash was not immediately determined.

The Seminary Avenue onramp to eastbound I-580 was shut down to give authorities unimpeded access to the crash site. It was reopened after 8 a.m.
