The driver who died on a San Jose freeway over the weekend was identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner’s Office Monday as Jordan Campbell a 22 year-old resident of San Jose.

The California Highway Patrol reported Campbell was driving a silver Toyota Scion at a high rate of speed on southbound Interstate 280 onto Highway 87 at 5:20 a.m. on Saturday.

The vehicle hit the curb on the east edge of the road, left the roadway and hit a metal guardrail — sending it airborne into a highway support pillar killing Campbell instantly.

The vehicle then kept going in the air across the ramp’s traffic lanes, coming to a rest on its side.

Campbell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and the CHP was investigating the cause.
