The American Cancer Society will hold it’s 16th annual Celebration of Life Fashion show Friday March 25, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Monterey.

Fashions from local merchants will be modeled by cancer survivors with proceeds to benefit the American Cancer society of Monterey County.

The show and luncheon, which will begin at 11:00 am, will feature 6 year old Samantha Garcia who model for her second year. Samantha was diagnosed at age 4 with Wilms’ Tumor.

This will be Samantha’s second year modeling for the event according to her mother Diana Garcia.

Wilms’ tumor is the most common form of childhood kidney cancer and occurs in about 1 out of 200,000 to 250,000 children according to the NIH.

As with most cancers, it is difficult to give an exact cause, currently researchers have linked Wilms’ tumor to genetic and  environmental causes such as toxic chemical exposure by the parents before and during pregnancy.

If you or anyone you know has a child with Wilms’ tumor or any other birth defect or childhood cancer of unknown cause it could be related to chemical exposure in the workplace.
