A 6-year-old girl was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 680 on Monday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol officer Steve Crell, the crash occurred south of Bollinger Canyon Road, was reported around 2:30 p.m. between a white Ford Focus and a red Ford Explorer, .

The sport utility vehicle rear-ended the smaller car, according to Officer Creel. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

The girl, who was a passenger in the Focus, needed to be cut from the car by firefighters, Creel said. She was flown to Children’s Hospital Oakland by a medical helicopter.

The driver of the Focus and another passenger, as well as the driver of the Explorer, had less serious injuries and were also taken to hospitals.

A traffic advisory was issued as the helicopter landed on the freeway and crews cleaned up the wreckage.
