A 4-year-old boy was among three people who were hospitalized after a auto accident yesterday in Clayton, police said.

The collision occurred about 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Oakhurst Drive and Eagle Peak Avenue when a Honda went through a red light on Oakhurst and stuck a Toyota Camry broadside which was turning left from Eagle Peak Avenue, according to Clayton Police Officer Allen White.

Firefighters had to pry the Toyota driver — a Clayton woman in her 80s — out of her vehicle, White said. Both she and the driver of the Honda, a Pittsburg woman in her 30s, were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The young boy, riding in the back seat of the Honda, was taken to Children’s Hospital Oakland, also with moderate injuries.

Both cars were inoperable after the accident and were towed form the scene.
